Airlander at Dubai Air Show

  • The Dubai Airshow is one of the largest and most important aerospace events in the world.
  • Airlander is ready for Government and military flight demonstration of capabilities and is exhibiting at the Airshow to secure customer trials.
  • Pre-planned discussions with regional mission systems providers will explore the application of Airlander as a new low cost, persistent airborne ISR platform.
  • The Airlander team is looking to form partnerships and provide aircraft to the region through discussions with the UAE Aerospace industry.
  • Hybrid Air Vehicles are attending the Dubai Air Show this month as a result of increasing interest in Airlander in the Middle East. The region is particularly suited to Airlander due to long borders, where Airlander’s surveillance range and duration surpasses any other form of airborne border security and patrol.  In the maritime environment the ability to patrol from the air for days at a time is seen as a vital security measure.   With the Dubai 2020 Expo fast approaching, Airlander is aiming to showcase its capability there and in the run up to the Expo.

The Airlander Team will be spending time at the Bin Hilal booth as well as following up with potential Governmental customers, regional mission systems providers and the UAE aerospace industry supply chain to explore the application of Airlander as a new low cost, persistent airborne ISR platform.

“Dubai Air Show is a key event as we recognise the military capability gap, in the Middle Eastern region in particular, that Airlander can solve. Airlander is a cost-effective, multifunctional solution that has the possibility to revolutionise current ISR provisions and we are confident about the number of high-level conversations due to take place.” – Tom Grundy, Executive Director – Strategic Customer Solutions and Support

This month has also seen Airlander move into the 2nd phase of test-flying, known as Airworthiness Release 2a (AWR2a). AWR2a permits Airlander to fly higher (up to 7000 feet), faster (up to 50 knots) and further away from its airfield (up to 75 nautical miles away), but most crucially allows her to undertake display and demonstration activity.

If you would like to schedule a time to speak with HAV’s attendees at the event then please contact media@hybridairvehicles.net to arrange a time.

About Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd

Founded in 2007, Hybrid Air Vehicles is the company behind the innovative Airlander range of hybrid aircraft.  Airlander’s create new capability in the air with ultra-endurance combined with large payloads.  This gives unprecedented surveillance, search and communications aspects, and will ultimately lead to passenger and cargo carrying roles.

The Airlander 10 combines the best characteristics of fixed-wing aircraft with lighter-than-air technology to create a new breed of hyper-efficient and sustainable aircraft, with significantly lower pollution – including noise, its carbon footprint or other particles.  This green aircraft also has significantly lower operating costs and maintenance needs than standard forms of air transport.  They can take off and land from unprepared sites in desert, ice, water, or open field environments in a short distance.  Airlander 10 is designed to stay airborne for up to five days at a time to fulfil a wide range of communication and survey roles, as well as cargo carrying and tourist passenger flights.

Hybrid Air Vehicles has been awarded both UK and European* grant funding to support the Airlander project.  In addition the company has carried out two ‘crowdfunding’ rounds and is proud to have more than 2000 enthusiastic shareholders.

Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd was recently accepted onto London Stock Exchange’s ELITE programme for high growth companies looking to seek a listing on the AIM Stock Market.

Over the past few years Hybrid Air Vehicles has won a number of awards which validate our technology, and the great workforce that have created a unique concept and product. Our award successes reflect our remarkable achievements, won through dogged entrepreneurial determination and private investment spanning 40 years.

Airlander Media Statement - 18 November 2017
Today there was an incident with the Airlander aircraft at Cardington airfield.  The aircraft was not flying at the time of the incident.  Our initial assessment is that the aircraft broke free from its mooring mast for reasons that will be investigated.  The aircraft has a safety system which operates automatically in circumstances of the aircraft breaking free of its mast, and is designed to rip open the hull and deflate the aircraft.  This is a safety feature to ensure our aircraft minimises any potential damage to its surroundings in these circumstances.  The aircraft is now deflated and secure on the edge of the airfield.  The fuel and helium inside the Airlander have been made safe.    A member of HAV staff sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for assessment as a precaution.  She has since been discharged.  A separate member of staff also sustained minor injuries while dealing with the aftermath of the incident.    A number of local roads and a local footpath were temporarily closed off by Bedfordshire Police and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused local residents.    We are testing a brand new type of aircraft and incidents of this nature can occur during this phase of development. We will assess the cause of the incident and the extent of repairs needed to the aircraft in the next few weeks.
